A significant change this year at the Christmas Market in Gdańsk is the introduction of a deposit system with special regional cups from Lubiana. This eco-friendly solution will reduce waste and ensure the city's cleanliness. The deposit per cup will be 30 PLN. These cups will be distributed at 12 mulled wine huts, and returns will be made to two special containers located on the market grounds. Returns will be available Sunday-Monday, 12:30 PM - 8:00 PM, and Friday-Saturday, 12:30 PM - 9:00 PM. Cashless transactions are preferred. This year, the deposit system will be tested, with the aim of extending it to all mulled wine stations in subsequent years.
This year, the mulled wines available at the Christmas Market in Gdańsk have also been standardized. They are made from red and white grapes from family-owned vineyards in eastern Austria, in the Burgenland region – primarily Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt grape varieties. Their festive aroma is achieved by leaching cinnamon bark, cloves, and anise. The wines contain no preservatives or other artificial additives. The winemaker was selected through a competitive process. Each of the 12 mulled wine distribution points at the market will receive a base to create their own original product. This is to ensure the highest quality.
As is tradition, collector's mugs will be available for purchase throughout the fair. This year, they come in four colors: chocolate, caramel, sky blue, and white. They make the perfect souvenir or gift from the Christmas Market in Gdańsk. Several thousand of them are produced annually at Bardoń Ceramics, commissioned by the event organizer. Each year, the mug's graphics and colors vary. The mugs are undoubtedly a hit at the fair, selling out in 2024. Hot drinks can also be enjoyed in the collector's mugs during the fair. However, they are not deposit-refundable mugs, so they are not refundable after use at the deposit-refundable mug drop-off points.
